YouTube Solves Lost Music Problem After Deal With SESAC

JAKARTA - YouTube has just addressed a major problem experienced by its users regarding the disappearance of a number of songs from the YouTube and YouTube Music platforms. This problem came after the performance rights for several songs managed by the SESAC (Society of European Stage Authors and Composers) ended and have not been extended. However, now YouTube has reached a new agreement with the SESAC, so that previously deleted music will be available again soon.

Over the weekend, YouTube and YouTube Music users began paying attention to that some previously available songs could no longer be accessed. When users try to play these songs, they get error messages related to copyright issues from content managed by SESAC. SESAC itself is an organization that manages performance rights for major artists such as Adele, Fleetwood Mac, and Nirvana.

This problem arises because the agreement between YouTube and the SESAC has expired, while negotiations for extension have not reached an agreement. As a result, Google was forced to remove music content protected by SESAC's performance rights from YouTube and YouTube Music.

In its official statement, YouTube explained that they are working hard to resolve this issue and renew the deal with the SESAC so that lost music can be accessed again immediately. The good news, on September 30, 2024, YouTube announced that a new deal with the SESAC had been reached.

Through a message posted on X (previously known as Twitter), YouTube revealed that previously blocked music will be restored in the next few days. "For users in the United States, we are pleased to announce that YouTube has reached an agreement with the SESAC. Content (which was previously blocked) will be restored across YouTube's services in the next one or two days. We appreciate your patience."

The loss of music from platforms such as YouTube and YouTube Music has caused anxiety for many users, especially those who have a collection of favorite songs from well-known artists. However, with the achievement of this new agreement, the music is expected to return soon, and users can enjoy their music collection as before.

Although the loss of this music may have been caused by a failure to extend the deal at the right time, YouTube and SESAC have finally managed to solve this problem. Users can now hope to see the return of the music that had disappeared in the next few days.
