JAKARTA - Director General of Informatics Applications of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Hokky Situngkir said Indonesia has the opportunity to build a foundation for the Artificial Intelligence (AI) ecosystem through the diversity of content produced.

Hokky also emphasized how diversity in the country can be an opportunity in AI development. One of them is with the many languages we have.

"We have 714 languages throughout the archipelago, and this is a great opportunity for the development of AI technology, especially in terms of Large Language Models that are able to recognize and understand regional languages," Hokky explained in his official broadcast quoted Wednesday, September 25.

However, the Director General of Aptika Kominfo also underlined the importance of considering the security aspects of AI use, especially regarding personal data protection.

"AI is offensive in terms of opening up opportunities, but we must also be prepared to face the risks that arise by maintaining our data," he continued.

Therefore, as part of the development of a sustainable digital ecosystem, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics has issued a number of regulations, such as the ITE Law and the PDP Law, as well as ethical guidelines for AI development.

"With the diversity of our digital content for future AI as well as strengthening digital safety, digital security, information security in our lives of society, nation, state and humanity," said Hokky.
