Potential Pixel Watch Pro/Ultra: Google's New Steps In Smartwatch World

JAKARTA - The Pixel Watch 3 was just released two weeks ago, but attention has turned to the possibility of Pixel Watch Pro or even Pixel Watch Ultra in the future. With most of the latest updates being software-driven, many are wondering what Google will do next, especially in terms of hardware.

Chip update may be the main focus, where there is a chance Google will partner to develop the RISC-V chip for Wear OS. Another alternative, Pixel Watch 4 can bring a more modern and efficient co-processor. Google is still using Cortex-M33 for three Pixel Watch generations, while more functions such as health tracking and ML algorithms are now charged with these co-processors. More efficient chips can certainly increase battery life.

Pro/Ultra Design and Features: If Pixel Watch introduces Pro or Ultra variants, design and specification improvements are something to look forward to. The current "Ultra" trend on smartwatches focuses on tools for extreme activity such as running, swimming, or climbing, and Apple Watch Ultra has proven success beyond its original target market. Many users select it because of longer battery life and larger screens.

Google can take inspiration from here, introducing Pixel Watch with battery life that can reach 48 hours of normal use. To achieve that, a larger battery and screen are needed, as well as a more durable case, but not necessarily adopt the rugged display commonly found in extreme watches.

New Materials and Designs: Pixel Watch Pro or Ultra could use materials like titanium for extra durability, although Google currently prioritizes light by switching from stainless steel to aluminum. With a larger screen and a more conventional design, Google can also consider using sapphire glass for extra resistance.

In addition, some futuristic features that may be embedded include gesture control using Soli technology, fingerprint sensors, to cameras for video calls.
