IPhone 17 Expected To Present ProMotion On All Models, Face ID Under The New Screen Will Be Available In 2028

Rumors about the iPhone 17 are starting to get busy, although the iPhone 16 has just been released. Based on reports from several industry analysts, the entire iPhone 17 variant will get the ProMotion feature, an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate technology previously available only on the iPhone Pro model. However, Face ID technology below the screen that was predicted to be present, does not appear to be available on the iPhone 17, either for regular models or Pro models.

In a conversation posted on platform X last Thursday, Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, spoke with renowned technology leak Ice Universe about the screen upgrade on the iPhone 17. Young explained that the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Slim will be equipped with an LTPO screen that supports ProMotion. This technology allows the screen to have an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz, providing a smoother and more responsive visual experience, especially when playing games or watching videos.

In addition, the presence of the LTPO screen also allows the iPhone 17 to support the always-on display feature, which was first introduced to the iPhone Pro model. This feature allows important information such as time and notifications to remain visible on the screen even though they are locked, without draining battery power significantly.

However, regarding rumors about Face ID technology under the scenes, Ross Young provided clarification after previously there was confusion in communication. He stated that this technology will not be available on the iPhone 17 or the iPhone 17 Slim, but is likely to be present in Pro models in the future, but not sooner than 2028. Under-display Face ID technology allows for the front camera to be hidden below the screen, so that there are no more holes or notchs that interfere with the screen display.

This speculation reinforces rumors that have been circulating before. In April, Young also predicted that the iPhone 17 feature will get ProMotion's always-on display and support features across all models. Then in July, Ice Universe added that the entire iPhone 17 series will have the technology, not only limited to the Pro variant.

Meanwhile, several other leakers revealed that Face ID's under-display technology still requires further development before it can be implemented en masse. Thus, this feature is only expected to be ready to be launched on the upcoming generation iPhone model in 2028.

Although still speculation, the rumors about the iPhone 17 are quite encouraging for the enthusiasm of Apple fans, who are looking forward to various new innovations from the giant technology company.
