JAKARTA - Apple's launch of the iPhone 16 and Apple Watch Series 10 at Apple's recent "Glow Up" event has caught the attention of many technology enthusiasts. However, although Apple is known as an innovator in the world of technology, the launch of this latest device actually reveals that many of the features presented have already been introduced by Android devices.

Sleep Apnea Warning: Galaxy Watch Already First

One of the features that excels in the Apple Watch Series 10 is the Sleep Apnea warning. Apple introduced this feature as one of the advantages in its latest launch. However, Samsung has introduced the same features first on the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra. In fact, this feature is also available on the Galaxy Watch 6, while Apple users must have Series 10 to be able to use it. This suggests that although Apple is often considered the pioneer of innovation, Samsung has already implemented this health feature.

Training Load: Not New In Wearable World

Apple Watch Ultra 2 introduces the Training Load feature, which allows users to track the intensity and duration of their exercises on the body over time. Although this feature is promoted as a new innovation, wearable devices like Garmin and COROS have long used this feature.

Google also follows this trend by introducing Fitbit Cardio Load on Pixel Watch 3, which will be coming soon. Even so, this feature will also be available on older Apple Watch models when watchOS 11 is released, giving users more options to track their fitness.

Camera Control Button: Inspiration From 3D EVO HTC

In the iPhone 16 Pro, Apple introduces a new capacitive button for camera control. This button allows users to switch between various camera modes by simply touching and swiping the screen. However, this technology is not entirely new. In 2017, 3D EVO HTC has introduced a similar camera control button.

However, Apple uses a different approach to more sophisticated capacitive technology, but users may face problems when taking photos in wet hands or rain.

Visual Intelligence: Smart Feature That Reminds Google Lens

Apple also introduced a new feature called Visual Intelligence that allows users to get information instantly just by pointing the camera at specific objects, such as restaurants or concert posters. This is very similar to Google Lens and the Circle to Search feature on Android.

With this feature, iPhone users can immediately get place reviews, add events to calendars, or find out product prices online. Even so, some of these features are actually available on Google apps that can be downloaded on iPhones, showing that this innovation is not entirely new.

4K/120fps Video Record: Sony And Samsung Already

One of the new camera features offered by the iPhone 16 Pro is the ability to record videos in 4K resolution with a speed of 120 frames per second (fps). This is definitely a great addition to users who like to record high-quality videos. However, Apple is not the first to offer this feature.

The Sony Xperia 5 Mark IV, which was released in 2022, has already presented the ability to record 4K/120fps, followed by the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and Vivo X100 Ultra. This means that although this feature is a step forward for iPhone users, Android has had this capability some time ago.

With the increasing number of Android features present on Apple devices, the dividing line between these two operating systems is getting thinner. IPhone users can now enjoy features that were previously only available on Android devices. However, there is one thing that is still not present on the iPhone, namely folding phones.

To date, despite the many rumors circulating, Apple is expected to release its folding phone in the next year or two. Meanwhile, Android users are already enjoying this innovation with various foldable phones that are available on the market.

Apple may have taken a lot of inspiration from Android, but with the development of features like the integration of ChatGPT in the future, Apple is still trying to provide a unique experience for its users.
