The Minister Of Communication And Information Will Take Firm Action On Allegations Of Personal Data Theft By Indosat Partners

JAKARTA - Indonesia Ooredoo Hutchison was recently reported to be involved in a case of data theft or phishing cybercrime identity by one of its partners in Kayu Manis Village, Tanah Sareal District, Bogor City. It is suspected that the partner stole thousands of citizen ID cards in order to pursue the target selling of Indosat SIM Card.

Responding to the allegation, Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi said he would take firm action against all types of crimes, including the theft of personal data.

"I emphasize that Kominfo does not tolerate any form of cyber crime. Personal data security is a top priority, and every violation will be dealt with firmly," Budi said as quoted on Tuesday, September 3.

The Minister of Communication and Information also claimed to have summoned the Directors of Indosat Ooredoo to provide a direct explanation regarding the incident. In addition, the meeting will discuss the handling solutions needed to improve the data protection system at the company.

Budi also reminded all cellular telecommunications service providers and to always ensure consumer protection, maintain service quality, and comply with all existing laws and regulations.

"Including the Telecommunications Law and the Personal Data Protection Act. Every telecommunications company must be responsible for customer data security. There should be no compromise in this matter," he said.
