Elon Musk Supports California Bill Mandatory Security Test On AI Model

JAKARTA - Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla who is also the owner of social media platform X, has again voiced the importance of regulation against artificial intelligence (AI). On Monday, August 26, Musk publicly expressed his support for the SB 1047 Bill under discussion in California, which will require technology companies and AI developers to conduct security tests on some of the AI models they developed.

"For more than 20 years, I have been a supporter of AI regulations, just as we regulate other products or technologies that have the potential to endanger the public," Musk said in a post on platform X. He urged the state of California to immediately ratify the bill in order to maintain public security.

The SB 1047 bill is one of 65 draft laws proposed in California this legislative season, all of which are related to AI. This bill, if passed, will ensure that algorithmic decisions are tested to ensure the absence of bias and that individual property that has died is not exploited by the AI company. However, many of these bills are now dead or are not followed by the process.

On the same day, Microsoft-backed OpenAI also voiced support for another bill from California, namely AB 3211. The bill will require tech companies to label all content generated by AI, from harmless memes to deepfakes that can be used to disseminate misinformation about political candidates.

Concerns about the role of content generated by AI in elections continue to increase, especially as this year countries representing a third of the world's population will hold elections. AI content has played an important role in several elections, including in Indonesia, where this technology has been significantly used in political campaigns.

With the support of figures like Elon Musk, it is increasingly clear that AI regulations are a priority for many parties amid concerns about the negative impact of this technology on society and the democratic process.
