Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 Specification Leaks: Less Supporting 120Hz Screen And 108MP Camera

JAKARTA - Qualcomm, known for its "4" series processor which is usually aimed at a smartphone market with a limited budget, will likely launch the latest variant of Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, namely Snapdragon 4s Gen 2. The latest information leak published by Evan Blass on X (previously Twitter) suggests that Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 will be among Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 and 4 Gen 2 in terms of performance.

Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 maintains 4nm creation process and octa-core CPU configuration, but with a slight drop in clock speed, reaching up to 2.0GHz compared to 2,2GHz at 4 Gen 2. While still using 4nm process, significant changes lie in screen support and RAM compatibility.

In terms of screen support, Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 no longer offers a smooth 120Hz FHD+ experience as in 4 Gen 2. On the other hand, this chip only supports screens with a 90Hz FHD+ standard refresh rate. This could affect the visual experience, especially for users who prioritize a more subtle and responsive display.

In the RAM sector, Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 chooses to use more conventional LPDDR4x RAM at speeds of up to 2133MHz, instead of more advanced LPDDR5x RAM. While this difference may not be too flashy in everyday use, it could affect multitasking performance and application loading time.

In addition, the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 also does not support cameras with a 108MP resolution, which is still supported by Snapdragon 4 Gen 1. This option limits the quality of images on devices that use these chips, which could affect the user's photography experience.

Overall, Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 seems to be a more budget-friendly option for manufacturers who want to launch affordable 5G smartphones. However, the decline in screen refresh rate support, RAM compatibility, and camera capabilities suggest that users may need to face some compromise in terms of user performance and experience. Currently, it is still unclear which phone brand will adopt Snapdragon 4s Gen 2.
