Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 Vs. Galaxy Z Flip 5: Is It Worth Upgrade?

JAKARTA - The latest launch of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, starting with a comparison with the previous model, the Galaxy Z Flip 5, is inevitable. Although both models have many similarities, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 offers some significant improvements to consider.

Both phones have a typical Galaxy Flip folding design with the use of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and 187g weights. However, Z Flip 6 comes with a better design, dust protection, and IP48 water resistance. This phone also has a more diverse color and spilled coating that makes it 10% more scratch resistant.

From the side of the screen, both the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Flip 5 have a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED main screen and a 3.4-inch Super AMOLED cover screen. However, Z Flip 6 has a peak brightness of 2,600 nits and a refresh rate of 120Hz, making it look brighter and smoother than Z Flip 5.

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 12GB RAM processor, and a 4,000mAh battery, which is an upgrade of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, 8GB RAM, and a 3,700mAh battery at Z Flip 5. The Z Flip 6 main camera is also upgraded to 50MP, compared to 12MP in the previous model. In addition, the presence of vapor chamber on Z Flip 6 helps prevent cell phones from overheating.

Software and AI Features

Galaxy Z Flip 6 comes with Android 14 and One UI 6.1, as well as new AI features such as Sketch to Image, Circle to Search, and Live Translate. The phone also offers seven years of OS and security updates. Meanwhile, Z Flip 5, which runs Android 13 with One UI 5.1.1, can be updated to Android 14 and enjoys some similar AI features, although not as many as the latest models.

With prices ranging from 1,100 US dollars (Rp17.8 million), the Galaxy Z Flip 6 offers a larger battery, a stronger processor, and an OS update guarantee for seven years. However, if you already have the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and use it for everyday tasks, this upgrade may not be too significant to justify a huge price difference. For those who want a more substantial generation increase, waiting for the Galaxy Z Flip 7 may be a wiser option.
