JAKARTA Google announced a new partnership to achieve net zero emissions. Starting Monday, July 1, Google is officially working with the Climate Infrastructure business at BlackRock to advance clean energy. These two companies will develop a solar power grid in Taiwan with a capacity of 1 gigawatt (GW). Google deliberately selects Taiwan because 85 percent of the island's electricity comes from coal and natural gas imported. To facilitate the construction of a solar power grid at a very large scale, Google is investing in models in New Green Power (NGP), developers and solar power operators in Taiwan and Portfolio Company BlackRock. "Our investment in NGP, subject to regulatory approval, will serve as a development capital towards a new solar project network with a capacity of 1 GW, which will catalyze important equity and debt financing for those projects," said Google Central Energy Global Head Amanda Peterson Corio. Through this investment, Google hopes to gain solar energy of up to 300 megawattts (MW). This amount of energy will be used to help meet electricity demand in data centers, cloud areas, to Google office operations in Taiwan.

David Giordano, Head of Global Climate Infrastructure BlackRock, said that investment in clean energy is the right step. The reason is, this investment will continue to protect the environment as demand for Artificial Intelligence (AI) increases. "In line with the increasing demand for digital services, supported by AI and data-centric technology, investment in clean energy becomes very important. This partnership is a testament to a shared commitment between Google and BlackRock to drive the transition to a low-carbon economy," said David. Both Google and BlackRock consider that this partnership is very important in achieving zero carbon emissions and carbon emission-free. Going forward, Google will expand carbon-free energy across Asia Pacific or even across countries.
