JAKARTA - Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft and one of the richest people in the world, warned of the potential dangers of artificial intelligence (AI) at a conference in London this week. But he also admits that AI is an "extraordinary" technology that can save humans from climate change and disease. Gates stressed that this technology should be used by people with good intentions.

Speaking at the Breakthrough Energy Summit in London, Gates said that AI could be used by criminals involved in cyber attacks or political interference. "Detention must be smarter than attacks. And both sides will use AI to improve their game," Gates said.

Gates also mentioned that AI will be a good force in providing better health care and tackling climate change, in particular by calling nuclear fusion energy a clean alternative to fossil fuels.

Microsoft, a company founded by Gates with Paul Allen in 1974, currently embraces AI wholeheartedly through products such as AI-powered laptops and Copilot chatbots. Microsoft also provides financial support to OpenAI, the California technology company that created ChatGPT.

With a market value of 3.365 trillion US dollars as of June 2024, Microsoft remains a major player in the AI revolution. According to a Business Insider report, Gates has 'disclosely coordinated' much of Microsoft's AI revolution.

Bill Gates' warning about AI emphasizes the need for the use of this technology with good intentions. Although AI has the potential to bring great benefits in the health and environmental sectors, the risk of its use by irresponsible parties must be watched out for.
