JAKARTA - After years of waiting for the release of the lossless audio tier promised by Spotify, several leaked UI elements suggest that the project is still alive and running, otherwise it may be close to being released.
The current Bitrate of Spotify reaches 320kbps, but that could soon change if screenshots taken from Spotify's 1.236 version by Redditor OhItsTom are accurate. They show what users can expect from lossless features, including device compatibility check and lossless streaming quality up to 1,411kbps, and could be even higher.
Another section states that lossless quality of up to 2,117kbps can be achieved, which can consume 15,9MB of data per minute. Hearing support up to 24-bit/44.1kHz may also be available for "limited songs" through FLAC audio format, something previously mentioned in Spotify's build code sample.
Screenshots also show compatibility checks that tell users whether their devices, connection types, and bandwidth can support lossless audio. This is presented in conjunction with some text suggestions that suggest users download music in lossless quality for the best offline listening experience and warn users that most Bluetooth devices "do not fully support lossless noise." Instead, users are asked to use a wired device or listen wirelessly via the Spotify Connect feature.
