JAKARTA - Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed the intention of the giant technology company from the United States to increase its investment in Vietnam. This was conveyed by Cook during a meeting with Vietnam's Prime Minister, Pham Minh Chinh, in Hanoi on Tuesday, April 16.

Vietnam has become a key manufacturing hub for Apple, where the company wants to increase spending on its suppliers in the Southeast Asian country. During the meeting, Prime Minister Chinh stated that Vietnam would form a working group to support Apple's investment in the country.

In a statement released on Monday 15 April on its website, Apple announced its plans to increase spending on its suppliers in Vietnam, as well as new advances in initiatives to support clean water for local schools. Apple's spending in Vietnam has reached around 400 trillion, please (around Rp258 trillion) and has created around 200,000 jobs.

Cook arrived in Hanoi on Monday for a two-day visit where he met suppliers, students, content creators, and Apple product users. Currently, Apple is producing the iPad, AirPods, and Apple Watches in Vietnam, while suppliers to MacBook are also investing in the Southeast Asian country.

Apple's latest statement comes days after activists prompted the company to take action regarding the detention of environmental experts in Vietnam. During a meeting with Cook, Prime Minister Chinh stated that Vietnam sought support from Apple in the development of renewable energy and high-quality human resource training.
