Nexperia, Dutch Chip Company, Becomes Cyber Hacking Attack Victim

JAKARTA - The Netherlands-based Nexperia chip company fell victim to a hacking attack by cybercriminals last month. This was revealed by the company owned by China on Friday, April 12 and is investigating the incident with the help of an external specialist.

"Nexperia is aware that a third party unauthorizedly accessed several IT Nexperia servers in March 2024," the company said in a statement, confirming an earlier report by Dutch broadcaster RTL.

"We immediately took action and cut off the affected system connections from the Internet to limit the incident and implement extensive mitigation," Nexperia added.

Nexperia is a former Standard Products division of chipmaker NXP, which was separated in 2016 and acquired by China's Wingtech in 2018. The company manufactures basic chips, transistors, and diodes.

The company said it had started an investigation with the support of third-party experts to determine the nature and scope of the incident. The company did not specify whether they suffered damage or losses as a result of the hack, but RTL reported that cybercriminals had published dozens of classified documents on the dark web as ransom demands.

The criminals claim to have stolen hundreds of gigabytes of classified information, RTL reports, including trade secrets, chip designs, and customer-related data such as Apple, Huawei, and SpaceX.
