Most UFO Sights Found In Western America

JAKARTA Some scientists conducted research on 98,000 UFO reports, now called the Unidentified Air Phenomenon (UAP), from an open source of the National UFO Research Center (NUFORC).

The study showed that the UFO or UAP sightings were mostly reported by residents in the western United States. Meanwhile, smaller reports come from the northeastern United States.

Richard Medina, a Geographyist at Utah University who led the research, told Space that his research results were highly unexpected.

"It's hard to explain why we're seeing more sightings in (the United States) west."

Medina and colleagues suspect that the most common sightings in western America are because the open space is wider and the weather supports the community to carry out recreational activities.

The more recreational activities are carried out, the more reports there are of UAP sightings because people are paying more attention to the sky.

In addition, several places in the western region are suspected to be one of the triggers.

Area 51 is a fairly well-known place in Nevada for its military facilities. The site is known as an alien technology testing facility, such as testing for strange-shaped reconnaissance aircraft since the 1980s.

The US government has also recognized the presence of the facility in 2013 and released documents related to research at the facility.

Several reports of UFO sightings also match the date and time of operation of the aircraft in Area 51.

"We don't make any hypotheses about what people see. It's just that, they will see more of the times and where they have the opportunity," the researchers said in the paper they created.

In fact, reports from residents regarding the emergence of UFOs in the sky cannot be fully proven.

Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for US Intelligence, Christopher Mellon, briefly said that, "Hundreds of credible military reports are still unexplained."

Therefore, Medina and its colleagues will explore the contents and patterns of reports from residents regarding UFO sightings. They will also consider variables such as drone activity, scientific balloons, and other activities in the sky.
