JAKARTA - Hoya Corp, Japan's leading lens maker, announced on Thursday April 4, that production of some of its products has stalled after a system failure, which is "with the possibility of being caused by unauthorized access" to their servers.

Hoya stated that the company found a system mismatch in one of its overseas offices on Saturday 30 March and confirmed disruption despite their attempts to isolate the affected servers.

The company is investigating whether any confidential or personal data has been compromised and is working with authorities to resume production as soon as possible.

Hoya's consumer glasses lens unit, Hoya Vision Care Co, on Tuesday 2 April apologized on its website that it had stopped receiving orders for lenses due to the failure of the system that hit the entire group.

Hoya is the second largest ranking in the world in lensmaking of glasses, with about 90% of their lens sales coming from outside Japan, according to its latest annual report.

Hoya's spokesman declined to reveal whether other optical products from the company, including components for chip manufacturing equipment and hard drive disks, had been affected by the disruption.
