Sign MoU With Microsoft Indonesia, Kominfo Will Develop Indonesia's Digital Talents

JAKARTA - On Thursday, March 14, the US Presidency Joe Biden through the United States legislature has agreed on a rule that forces ByteDance to sell TikTok. Because, if TikTok is still under the ownership of a Chinese company, TikTok is threatened with being blocked.

This decision is a follow-up to the US government, which for the past year has limited access to TikTok as the app is considered to be collecting and sharing sensitive data such as user location information, to the Chinese government.

Meanwhile, the United States has decided to block TikTok in its country, the Indonesian government through the Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi said he would meet with TikTok next week.

"Yes, we want to meet next week, we will discuss it," Budi told the media after the signing of the MoU of the Ministry of Communications and Informatics with Microsoft Indonesia on Thursday, March 14 in Jakarta.

However, Budi did not reveal what discussions would be discussed later with TikTok. But for sure, Budi may be discussing the security issues that are being questioned by other countries.

"Yes, I don't know (the discussion) yet, but later it can be discussed about data security, what is it. Because many people suspect it like that, but we still have to see first," said the Minister of Communication and Information further.

Apart from the US, several other countries have also implemented policies to ban the use of the TikTok application. Like India which banned the TikTok platform in mid-2020.

There are also Britain and its Parliament, Australia, Canada, the executive body of the European Union, France and the New Zealand Parliament, which have also banned applications from official devices.
