JAKARTA - Microsoft reportedly dismissed about 1,900 employees from its gaming division. The layoffs came after they successfully acquired the owner of Call of Duty Activision Blizzard worth 69 billion US dollars.
In an email sent by Xbox boss Phil Spencer to employees, he said that this decision was part of the company's commitment to aligning strategy and execution plans with a sustainable cost structure to support its business growth.
"As part of this process, we have made a painful decision to reduce the number of our game's workforce by about 1,900 roles of the 22,000 people in our team," he wrote, citing from IGN.
However, Spencer said it would give full support to affected employees during the transition period, including severance pay allowances informed by local labor laws.
"Going forward, we will continue to invest in areas that will develop our business and support our strategy to bring more games to more players around the world," Spencer said further.
Despite having to go through difficult moments, Spencer believes in the national team's ability to create and maintain the game, the story and the world that unites the players.
