JAKARTA Google announced the launch of the Real-Time Fraud Detection feature which is now starting to appear in beta on the Phone by Google app for Pixel devices. This feature aims to help users identify calls that have the potential to be scamming, automatically and directly on devices.

How to Use this new Feature Fraud Detection Feature can be accessed through the Settings menu in the Phone application, below the Assistive category which also includes features such as Hold for Me, Direct My Call, Call Screen, and Call Notes. Users need to activate this feature manually.

Google explains that Fraud Detection works automatically in the background for calls that have the potential for fraud. All processing is done on the device, and there is no recording or storage of call content.

How this Feature works does not filter out calls from existing contacts, but only for unknown numbers. When a call is detected as a potential scam, the user will hear a call at the start of the call and every few minutes to notify that the call is being monitored.

If there is suspicious activity, the user's phone will vibrate and make a sound to remind users to check the screen. The "Suspicious activity appointed for this call" warning will appear with the "End call" button and the option to mark "Not a scam" if the call is not a scam.

Although this feature is designed to help, Google warns that Fraud Detection is not 100% accurate as fraudsters often change their tactics. This feature is named the "sharpie" code within the app.

This Fraud Detection feature is currently rolling out for users listed in the beta program of the Phone by Google app with version 154. This feature is already available on Pixel 9 devices that use Gemini Nano to run detection, while Pixel 6 and more new devices use other Google machine learning models.

With this feature, Google is trying to provide more protection for Pixel users in dealing with increasingly sophisticated fraud threats.
