JAKARTA - The skyrocketing popularity of cryptocurrency has made most of the people become cryptocurrency miners. The reason is, because of the increasing number of mining activities that made Nvidia graphics cards rare.

The scarcity of graphics cards cannot be separated from the miners who buy them to mine virtual currency. To overcome this scarcity, the Nvidia graphics card company is also releasing their old GPU stock. It turned out that it couldn't keep up with the miners' request.

Until finally, Nvidia also designed a special chip and issued it to the digital currency mining market. Nvidia did not name this particular graphics card GPU or Graphics Processing Unit. The company issued the product under the name CMP (Cryptocurrency Mining Processor).

Nvidia issued a CMP in 4 models at once, namely Nvidia CMP 30HX, 40HX, 50HX, and 90 HX. Two CMPs will be released in the first quarter of 2021, while the rest will be launched in the second quarter of the same year.

“CMP products are sold through partners and are optimized for the best performance and mining efficiency. They do not meet GeForce GPU specifications and therefore will not affect the availability of GeForce GPUs for gamers", said Nvidia on their official website.

In the future, the chips for digital currency mining will be sold by corporate partners including Gigabyte, MSI, Asus, EVGA, and Colorful. However, until now the hardware form of this CMP is not known. Nvidia also has not provided more detailed information regarding the chip that will be issued.

The company only disclosed that the CMP could be embedded in an "open bracket optimized for air circulation". Of course, this is to reduce the heat that usually occurs. Interestingly, Nvidia promises that one CPU device will be able to use a large number of CMPs simultaneously.

As a result of the release of CMP, Nvidia also cut the GeForce RTX 3060 hashrate to 50 percent.

Nvidia revealed that they deliberately limited automatic detection on the device so that the GeForce RTX 3060 did not sell out because it was bought into miners so that gamers didn't get it, as reported by WCCFTech.

Cryptocurrency miners often use the GeForce RTX 3060 because it offers higher performance than other GPUs. This allows the miners to mine optimally.

Actually, the GeForce RTX 3060 was designed for gaming and not for mining. However, because of its high ability, miners take advantage of this graphics card to mine crypto. Apparently, Nvidia is trying to expand its market reach by presenting CMPs for miners.
