Google Suspends Congestion Functions In Israel's Navigation App Due To Rocket Attacks

JAKARTA - Users of Google's navigation apps in Israel are currently unable to see traffic congestion as this function is temporarily suspended as a precaution following rocket attacks from Gaza and Lebanon into the country.

Although crowd and color information on maps shows traffic congestion is temporarily unavailable on Google Maps and Waze, this information is still being considered in the estimation of the user's arrival time to their destination, a company spokesperson said.

Since Hamas militants launched cross-border attacks on Israel on October 7, the Gaza Strip has flared up into war, with widespread violence on the Lebanese border. Hamas and Hezbollah militants in Lebanon have launched thousands of rockets into Israel.

Many of these salvos are focused on residential areas and often synchronized with high activities such as busy hours.

"The suspension of the performance function of traffic congestion is carried out in response to the latest developments, as has been done in other war zones in the past," a Google spokesperson said.
