JAKARTA Itch.io, the website for buying and selling video games, announced that legal representatives from Nintendo had contacted them directly due to unofficial gaming problems.

In early December 2023, a fan created Game Boy The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening and published it on Itch.io.

This game is made almost similar to the original game, but the quality is overhauled in order to function on modern PCs.

Although this game can be downloaded for free, Nintendo considers that the game has violated copyright.

Therefore, Nintendo's legal representative sent an official letter to Itch.io so that the game could be deleted immediately.

"Please act as soon as possible to remove the download page and information for the game that violates it. I have confidence in the good faith that the material is not permitted by the intellectual property owner, agent, or law," wrote Nintendo's legal team in a release shared by Itch.io.

After this notification was issued, Game Boy The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening was no longer accessible.

Pages for the game display the caption, File game has been suspended due to copyright claims or trademarks.

Actually, the removal of this game is not surprising news. Quoting from Gamerant, a number of fans in the Zelda community admitted that they were not surprised by the decision taken by Nintendo's legal representative.

The reason is, Nintendo is quite strict with copyright rules so they often destroy mock games made by fans.

However, some fans also feel sad because they can no longer play the unofficial game.
