JAKARTA - Threads, a platform from Meta Platforms Inc., will conduct a trial where uploads from accounts on the microblogging platform will be available on Mastodon and other services that use the ActivityPub protocol. This was said by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Wednesday, December 13.
Meta had previously announced its plans to make Threads compatible with open and interoperable social networks when the app launched last July.
"Membuat Threads interoperable akan memberikan lebih banyak pilihan kepada orang-orang dalam berinteraksi dan akan membantu konten mencapai lebih banyak orang," kata Zuckerberg.
Mastodon, which is proud of its decentralized and user-based structure, is similar to Threads and an alternative to Elon Musk's social media platform "X", formerly known as Twitter.

Mastodon runs on a framework called ActivityPub that allows users to build an independent social media experience.
"Our plan is to work with ActivityPub to provide you with the option to stop using Threads and transfer your content to other services," the company said in July.
Threads, which reached more than 100 million registrations within five days of launch, are also scheduled to launch in Europe this December.
