Alex Jones' Account Returns To Platform X After 5 Years Blocked

JAKARTA - On Sunday, December 10, social media platform X showed that the United States conspiracy theory account, Alex Jones, had been reactivated. This comes after the owner X, Elon Musk, organized a poll supporting Jones' return after nearly five years of blocking the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

"The public has spoken and so is it," Musk wrote in response to a poll on Saturday, December 9 about whether to reactivate Jones' account. Nearly 2 million votes were collected at the time of closing the poll, with about 70% opting to support Jones' return.

Alex Jones' account with the username "@RealAlexJones" now features his last shipment from September 6, 2018, on the same day the social media platform, formerly known as Twitter, permanently bans Infowars accounts and websites, arguing that the account violates behavioral policies.

The blocking comes weeks after Alphabet's Apple, YouTube, and Facebook dropped off the Jones podcast and channel, referring to community standards.

Since the takeover by Musk, the platform has reactivated previously banned accounts, including the account of former US President Donald Trump.

Alex Jones, who has promoted a conspiracy theory about the shooting at Sandy Hook's school, was convicted last year of paying nearly $1.5 billion in compensation to the victim's family over false claims that they were the actors who organized the shooting as part of the government's plot to seize American weapons.
