South Korean Supermarket Giant, Emart, Prepares Complete Digital ATMs With Crypto Services

JAKARTA - Emart24, the store brand, part of Emart, the largest retailer and supermarket chain in South Korea, plans to take important steps. Namely installing the latest ATM machines equipped with crypto trading features and securities token offers (STO). This digital ATM is intended to facilitate cross-border transactions for foreign tourists and domestic customers.

Previously, Emart24 launched digital ATMs in its two branches in the districts of Myongdong and Samcheong, Seoul, which are tourist and shopping centers. These digital ATMs can serve foreign currency exchanges, VAT tax returns, and overseas shipments.

The ATM is also compatible with popular e-pay platforms in China, such as Alipay, Alipay Plus, WeChat Pay, and Union Pay, as well as the Japanese card issuer, the Japan Credit Bureau (JCB).

Not only that, but Emart24 also revealed its plans to add crypto trading features and STOs to these digital ATMs in the future. This feature will allow users to buy, sell, or exchange various digital assets, including bitcoin, ethereum, and securities tokens issued by South Korean companies. This feature will leverage blockchain technology to ensure transaction security and transparency.

Lee Jong-wan, head of the Emart24 service platform department, explained that this digital ATM is an innovation that combines the latest technology with customer needs.

"This digital ATM gives us an overview of the possibility of expanding the services offered. It could include future crypto ATM and STO trading options, which will provide convenience and benefits for our customers," concluded Lee Jong-wan.

For your information, Emart24 is one of several South Korean companies interested in the crypto and STO industry. The company has invested in several blockchain and fintech companies, such as Terra, Dunamu, and Kakao. The company has also collaborated with crypto payment company BitPay to accept crypto payments in its stores.
