Deputy Minister of Communication and Information, Nezar Patria, said the ethical circular letter for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology would be published in early December 2023.
Nezar explained that this circular was the first step for Kominfo in the form of an appeal from the government to regulate the development and use of AI in the country.
"We call this if in the world the name is soft regulation. So he has not provided an interactive impact, for example until he is caught in a legal trap and so on, it has not yet arrived there. If it is included in the law, yes, we already have an ITE law there," said Nezar to the media crew in Jakarta, Friday, November 24.
However, if this AI content enters the public realm such as on social media, and creates false information or has the potential to cause chaos, it will be dealt with using the applicable law.
"This SE is actually more of an ethical reference. But if this AI product goes into the public realm, it goes to, for example, social media and it brings some kind of information chaos or it also has the potential to violate the law and so on, so it enters the realm of law. Later there will be a legal process that will take place there," he said.

"Those will be law enforcement officers who will evaluate," replied Nezar when asked whether he would be charged with the ITE Law or the PDP Law.
Meanwhile, Nezar revealed that Kominfo will begin to be discussed with a number of stakeholders on Monday. This circular will then be targeted for publication in early December.
"We probably won't make very striking regulations, because we don't want to limit innovation. What we want to do, we respond to AI with one attitude to maximize its benefits, maximize the benefit of minimizing the risk. That is our attitude in this AI issue," concluded Nezar.
