JAKARTA - Google launched a new feature on its video communication service Google Meet, which allows users to make cloud-encrypted 1:1 video calls without needing to create a meeting link first.

"Now you can make cloud-encrypted 1:1 video calls to other users in your organization using the Meet mobile application," wrote Google in its announcement on the Google Workspace blog, quoted Monday, November 6.

Before this feature existed, you needed to create a link first, which could then be shared in a calendar invitation, chat, or email to invite other participants to the meeting.

But with this update, Google says that you can now make Meet calls directly with your coworkers, without having to send a link.

Based on the demo video shared, the way this feature works is almost similar to video or audio calls in other messaging applications such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Messenger, and others. Where you just need to search the name, and start a call with that person.

"Now you can make Meet calls in the mobile app directly to coworkers and call their mobile devices," Google added.

Furthermore, on the call, you will also have access to the latest Meet features including in-meeting chat, virtual backgrounds and visual effects, live closed captioning, and more depending on your Workspace edition.
