JAKARTA - Ahead of the 2024 General Election (Pemilu), the Ministry of Communication and Information continue to make various efforts to keep the digital space safe from various hoaxes circulating.

In his latest press conference on Friday, October 27, Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi revealed three strategic steps in eradicating hoaxes.

First, Kominfo will increase public awareness about the dangers of election hoaxes and the importance of verifying information from reliable sources.

In addition, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics will also cooperate with several stakeholders, including law enforcement officials and social media platform organizers to identify and handle the spread of election hoax content.

"Third, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics is increasing cyber patrol efforts and receiving public complaints regarding election hoaxes," Budi explained to the media.

However, the Minister of Communication and Information realizes that this step will not be able to immediately tackle hoax problems, so Kominfo urges the public to be more selective in choosing news sources.

"Complain the news when you find news that sounds flashy or controversial," he said.

Furthermore, the Director General of Applications and Information Technology, Samuel A. Pangerapan, reminded the public regarding hoaxes that were created using artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

"Yesterday maybe my friends also saw that the 2015 President's video was edited using AI and it was as if President Jokowi had spoken to me in Mandarin," he said.

Therefore, Sammy encourages people to seek information from trusted sources, especially from large media. The hope is that the spread of hoaxes can be suppressed.
