JAKARTA - Many already know that Google pays Apple per year to become Safari's built-in search engine on Mac, iPad, and iPhone devices. However, no one knows for sure the amount of funds paid.

Now, the amount of funds Google has paid has been exposed. From the New York Times report, Google paid 18 billion dollars or equivalent to Rp286 trillion in 2021 to keep the two deals.

With this huge fund, Google is not only a search engine for Apple devices, but is a big barrier to the company. This was conveyed by former Google executive who worked on machine and AI learning on Apple.

Through a trial of Google's antitrust case, the former executive said that Apple had planned to buy Bing and build its own search engine, but was afraid of creating competition with Google until the deal was both lost.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is also aware of the importance of a deal between Apple and Google. If the agreement between the two tech companies ends, Apple may suffer losses due to developments from Google.

The company can rely on many apps it manages such as Gmail, Maps, to YouTube to promote Chrome. Google can also divert people from using safaris and this seems to have happened.

Quoting from The Verge,Google has built Apple's Spotlight-like feature and put it in Chrome. This feature is capable of presenting short facts and information from files, files and its device apps and is able to attract users to switch to Chrome.
