JAKARTA - It is undeniable that technological advances have opened up new opportunities and challenges for various industries around the world. Moreover, the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) which played a role in the business revolution.

However, the rapid development of AI and ML technology also makes cybercriminals will continue to look for new ways to exploit the technology for malicious purposes.

These cybercrime activities can certainly result in some impacts and concerns that include financial losses, disruptions to business, theft of intellectual property, and violations of privacy.

Currently, the existence of SMEs is very valuable to the local community as well as the Indonesian economy, but they are also the most vulnerable to cyber disturbances and crimes.

Unlike large companies, SMEs generally do not have human resources, expertise, and also other adequate resources to protect them from cyber threats. As a result, they become an easy target for cybercriminals who continue to evolve.

According to Steven Scheurmann, Vice President for ASEAN on the Palo Alto Networks, AI and ML technologies play a role in revolutionizing the professional way cybersecurity detects, prevents, and mitigates cyber threats.

"AI and ML play an important role in improving cybersecurity for SMEs by providing advanced threat detection, proactive vulnerability management, and automatic incident response capability," he explained in a statement received on Wednesday, October 25.

By analyzing large datasets of historical attack information and leveraging real-time threat intelligence feeds, the AI system can detect and assess potential attacks with greater accuracy and speed.

"Even small businesses that have limited resources can build a strong security posture, making it difficult for attackers to penetrate, provided there is a strong cybersecurity culture within the company," he explained.

According to him, holistic visibility, the 'zero-trust' approach, and AI integration will help ensure that SMEs can improve their cloud security to protect against current and future threats, wherever they choose to work.
