JAKARTA - Following in the footsteps of its competitors, namely Zoom and Microsoft Teams, Google introduced a new feature in Meet, which allows users to add beautifying effects during video calls.

"Introducing a touch of portrait on Meet, a new feature on mobile devices that lets you beautify your appearance slightly from the green space before joining or during meetings," Google said in a blog quoted Friday, October 20.

So, with this feature users can choose options from two portrait touch modes, namely Subtle and Smoothing. Subtle effects are used to smooth the skin very lightly, brighten the lower part of the eye and whiten the eye.

Meanwhile, according to Google, smoothing effects can be used to smooth the skin slightly more, brighten the lower part of the eye and whiten your eyes.

"This update is highly requested by our users and we hope that by providing the ability to fine-tune their performance a little bit, they will feel more comfortable and confident with their performance during video calls," the search giant added.

This feature will initially be launched by Meet on mobile devices. However, Google plans to introduce this feature to Google Meet on the web by the end of 2023. More information about its launch will soon be shared in the future.

Recently, Microsoft Teams partnered with Maybelline to give users the ability to change their appearance with a digital makeup color.

However, this portrait touch-up mode on Meet is not available to users with personal Google accounts. To access the feature, you must have premium accounts such as Business Standards, Business Plus, Company Essentials, Education Plus, Google One and Google Workspace Individuals.
