Kaspersky Sees Significant Requests For Deepfakes Ahead Of The 2024 General Election

JAKARTA - In 2024, Indonesia will again witness the general election. In the midst of current technological developments, public concerns regarding fake content are increasing.

Especially with the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) technology today, where fake content created through deepfake technology, is very easy for everyone to create.

There are concerns that deepfakes, video and voice content manipulation techniques that rely on AI, will be used to influence public situations and opinions ahead of the 2024 election.

In fact, Ronald Manoach, Expert Staff of the Prevention, Parmas and Public Relations Division of Bawaslu expressed his concern about deepfake technology ahead of the 2024 General Election.

"For Bawaslu this is an extraordinary threat, because this can be used to produce disinformation not only for political purposes, but to destabilize authoritative institutions such as Bawaslu," he said at the #YukPahamiPemilu event some time ago.

In some cases, there may be deepfake requests from individuals to specific targets such as celebrities or political figures. The price per minute of deepfake videos can range from 300 to 20,000 US dollars (Rp4.6 to 312 million).
