JAKARTA - OpenAI, a software developer for Artificial Intelligence (AI), is reportedly planning to make the latest AI chips. Quoting from Reuters, OpenAI has been planning the manufacture of this chip since last year.

OpenAI itself is considering the right strategy in making superior chips. One of the strategies they might do is acquire an AI chipmaker to design it internally.

Currently, most companies rely on GPU-based hardware to develop AI such as OpenAI's ChatGPT, GPT-4, and DALL-E 3. Looking at OpenAI's high demand for GPU supply chain, OpenAI may be experiencing problems.

GPU is an important point to run and serve the OpenAI model, but the cost is very expensive. If OpenAI remains confident in producing its own AI, it will cost a lot of money and the time it needs.

Making an AI chip and distributing it to the market will take years according to TechCrunch. Not only that, OpenAI will spend hundreds of millions of US dollars annually.

Given the large amount of funds, OpenAI certainly requires the right investors and believes in their abilities. It is not yet known whether device developers like Microsoft dare to take risks to support OpenAI.

However, OpenAI has a lucrative position to accept many investors in the research and development of AI chips that they will create. The reason is, they have succeeded with AI such as ChatGPT to the DALL-E series so far.
