JAKARTA - Bosch, a German technology and engineering company known as a supplier of automotive components and industrial technology, is strengthening China's position as a market and innovation center.
As reported by China Daily quoted Sunday, June 14, the strategy was delivered by Bosch executives at the Bosch Connected World 2026 conference in Berlin. Bosch is now targeting big opportunities from robotics, automation, and artificial intelligence or AI, especially amid the industry's growing interest in humanoid robots.
Stefan Hartung, Chairman of the Board of Management of the Bosch Group, said the company sees great opportunities in China's rapidly growing innovation ecosystem. Bosch also remains confident about the country's long-term prospects.
China is not a new market for Bosch. The company entered China in 1909 and now employs more than 57,000 people there. In fiscal year 2025, Bosch recorded sales of 149.8 billion yuan or about 20.8 billion US dollars in China.
But Bosch's focus does not stop at the market. The company wants to take a position in the robotics technology chain. Bosch does not plan to make a humanoid robot in its entirety. The company chooses to supply core components and supporting technologies.
The components include sensors, actuators, automation platforms, software, and AI-based systems. Actuators are components that convert system commands into movement, for example on a robot arm or automated machine.
Hartung said sensors, software, and electric drives are now an important part of modern robots. These three areas have been Bosch's expertise. The company estimates that robotics and automation could open up business opportunities worth billions of euros in the coming years.
In the same report, China Daily said China played a central role in the strategy. In January, Bosch established the Bosch Robotics Center China or BROC, which focuses on embodied AI and humanoid robot technology.
Embodied AI is artificial intelligence that is implanted in a physical machine, such as a robot, so that it can respond to the real environment.
Through BROC, Bosch wants to leverage China's strengths in manufacturing, supply chains, industry data, and technology deployment in the field. The center is also aimed at supporting physical intelligence innovation and accelerating the commercialization of robotics solutions in the industrial sector.
Bosch also signed a strategic cooperation with Chinese robotics startup Spirit AI. The two will explore robot data collection, AI model training, industry application, and the development of key components.
Bosch stated that China is now seen not only as a market for the company's products, but also as a source of technological innovation for smart manufacturing and next-generation robotics.
