JKAKARTA - The former iPhone designer, Sir Jony Ive, is in "continued talks" with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, as the two of them seek to bring artificial intelligence-based devices to the mass market.

Reported by The Financial Times, this device, which is still in the early planning stage, is expected to be able to integrate "more natural" artificial intelligence for users.

This is a huge leap compared to Apple's first touch-device revolution in 2007, but comes as many believe that Tim Cook's innovation has reached its peak.

Billionaire Masayoshi Son, founder of Japanese telecommunications giant SoftBank, is also reportedly involved in the conversation, and has even proposed a fund of US$1 billion (Rp15.4 trillion).

However, Jake Moore, a cybersecurity expert at ESET, warned that artificial intelligence-based phones should be developed carefully because the model has natural attachment to data.

"OpenAI and other generating artificial intelligence companies are trying to fill out their algorithms with this important ingredient - data," he told MailOnline. "Every time people use ChatGPT, they provide information and sometimes this can be personal information.

"By creating physical devices connected to ChatGPT accounts, this has the potential to provide more information to companies such as geolocation data, phone numbers, home addresses, and other account details, even more sensitive data such as contacts or access to images as we see in some intrusive applications," he added.

Sir Ive left Apple after 22 years there in 2019, and has since worked on numerous impressive projects, including the emblem of the Hall of King Charles III and Ferrari electric vehicles. But he is most remembered for his important role in the development of the first iPhone - released 16 years ago in 2007.

Unlike its competitors, Samsung and BlackBerry, the first iPhone features a revolutionary touchscreen that has appeared on each model since then. But maybe a new vision based on Sir Ive's artificial intelligence will help users become less dependent on their screen.

In 2018, the former iPhone designer told The Financial Times that he has a "moral responsibility" to divert consumers from overuse of screens.

Just this week, ChatGPT has also launched a number of game-changing features, including voice control on its app and the ability to explore the web using photos rather than text.

This comes as millions of people around the world have used this platform to produce human-like poetry, code, and various other written works using text stimuli.

While talks at the San Francisco Sir Ive studio are said to be "serious," it is too early to know what the artificial intelligence gadget looked like when the official deal was not final.

Creating hardware for such devices may also take years to materialize - the reason is that the first iPhone was developed in approximately two years.
