Two Big Chips Of Rockets Almost Collision In Low-Earth Orbit

JAKARTA - Two large pieces of waste originating from the bodyrocket have almost collided in low-earth orbit. This news was conveyed by LeoLabs, a space traffic supply and maintenance company, through platform X.

LeoLabs said that the incident almost occurred on September 13. At that time, the cargo of the former inactive Soviet Union and the damaged Chinese rocket body almost passed.

Using an analysis tool in the form of LeoMap, LeoLabs identified these two space junk as Cosmos 807 which was launched in 1976 with a 400 kilogram load and China's Long March 4C which was launched in 2018 with a weight of 2,000 kilograms.

When these two rockets collide, other garbage will appear. This collision will create about 3,000 pieces of debris in low earth orbit, quoted fromSpace.

This debris chip will take a long time to fall into the earth due to low atmosphere so that this debris could be harmful to satellites in similar orbits. In addition, this debris could also threaten the safety of astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS) or the Tiangong Space Station.

LeoLabs explained that abandoned objects in space need to be considered to avoid major collisions. The best steps that can be done now is to reduce space debris.

So far, the reduction in space waste has been implemented by a number of countries and companies to avoid opportunities for stunt syndrome, collisions due to the overlap of objects in low earth orbit.
