Despite Switching to USB-C, the iPhone 15 Series Still Seems to Use a Lightning Port

JAKARTA - Apple is starting to move from its flagship Lightning connector to a USB-C cable with the launch of the iPhone 15 series at the Apple Event 2023.

Even though it is considered more efficient because the majority of devices already use USB-C, Apple doesn't seem ready to launch a USB-C cable in the iPhone 15 series this time.

Lightning's ability to transfer itself is known to be lower, namely only 480 Mbps compared to USB-C which can transfer up to 40 Gbps.

However, Apple's switch to USB-C does not really change the implementation of data transfer itself. In the highlight of each iPhone 15 series on Apple's page, it is clearly visible that data transfer on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus is still limited.

The two newest series of iPhones are limited to USB 2.0 speeds (480 Mbps) which is similar to data transfer using the Lightning connector.

Meanwhile, big changes can be seen on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max which support USB 3 data transfers of up to 10 Gbps, twenty times faster than the other two series.

Apple itself does not include a cable with USB 3 capabilities in the Pro series so users will still use USB 2 speeds if they use the USB-C charging cable included during production.

With this problem, users need to buy their own cables. However, purchasing the right cable can also be an obstacle because there is no double-sided USB-C cable on the official purchase page.

If you want to find a double-sided USB-C cable, buyers should check out the iPad or Mac section purchase page with one and two-meter options. Unfortunately, these two cables also have different wattages.

Looking at maximizing USB-C cable connectivity, of course, the iPhone Pro series is the best choice. However, the iPhone 15 series has not yet been fully distributed so there are no more options regarding this USB-C supporting device.
