Kaspersky Expert Reminds Of Fraud That Occurs Ahead Of The Launch Of The IPhone 15

JAKARTA - Apple's latest smartphone launch, the iPhone 15 will be announced in the near future. Given this, security expert Kaspersky uncovered a series of scams exploiting euphoria about this technological innovation.

The scam includes various fraudulent schemes, each of which carries different risks for suspicious users, including potential data and financial losses.

In the most common fraudulent scheme, fraudsters will usually lure users with an offer of iPhone 15 purchase opportunities before their official release. This scheme takes advantage of the user's desire to be the first to have Apple's newest device.

How iPhone 15 purchase fraud works

As for how this scam works, fraudsters claim that they can provide pre-release iPhones and promise users the opportunity to get them, often at a higher price.

To secure their 'exclusive' purchases, victims are required to make payments in advance or leak their financial information. In addition, users are asked to provide details of personal identification such as name, address, and phone number.

After payment was handed over, the fraudsters disappeared, leaving the victim without the promised iPhone to lose money. In addition to financial risks, this scam also poses significant privacy concerns, as the stolen data could potentially be sold in the Dark Market.

Another form of fraud provides participants with the opportunity to win a new iPhone 15, provided they pay some of the costs upfront.

"It is very important for consumers to remain vigilant, verify offers, and keep their personal information. Remember, if something looks too good to come true, it often turns out to be a scam," said Tatyana Kulikova, security expert at Kaspersky.

Meanwhile, Apple has confirmed that the launch of the iPhone 15 will take place on September 12, 2023 at Apple Park's head office, Cupertino California, United States.
