JAKARTA - Coursera, a leading online learning platform, announced several new initiatives to increase access to higher-quality education in Indonesia.

In this initiative, Coursera has translated 2,000 courses into Indonesian, using the AI they developed with GPT-4 technology capabilities.

The launch of this initiative was also carried out because Coursera users from Indonesia experienced growth of up to 34 percent per year. This also brings Indonesia as the 2nd largest market for Coursera in Southeast Asia.

"Indonesia's ambition to play an important role on the global stage depends on its ability to develop skilled workers," said Coursera CEO Jeff Maggioncalda.

Jeff also said, of the total 129 million registered learners of Coursera as of June 30, 2023 worldwide, Indonesia itself contributed 1.4 million registrants. The increase in the number of registrants increased by 2.2 million from the previous year.

As its largest market, Jeff said that Coursera has a target to be able to provide courses for all students, and 10-15 percent of workers in Indonesia.

Jeff also revealed that as many as 99 percent of students in Indonesia who use Coursera intend to continue learning on the platform, and 98 percent of learners report the personal benefits of the Coursera platform itself.
