Prabowo Meets Pakistan's PM To Discuss Economic And Trade Cooperation

JAKARTA - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto held a bilateral meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif at the St Regis New Capital Hotel, Cairo, Egypt, Wednesday, December 18, before the D-8 Summit took place.

The President received PM Shehbaz Sharif's arrival and then the two shook hands. The meeting reflects the commitment of the two countries to strengthen relations that have existed so far.

"Thank you very much for this meeting. I've always wanted to meet you. Good relations between Indonesia and Pakistan continue, historically, traditionally. I think we should try to improve our relationship, and I hope to work together," President Prabowo told the Pakistani PM. , December 19.

President Prabowo's meeting with Pakistan's PM looked warm. In remarks to PM Shehbaz Sharif, the President said that he would seek to improve relations between the two countries that had been established historically.

PM Shehbaz Sharif also said that meeting with President Prabowo was an honor, and congratulated the close friendship that had been established.

"I would like to congratulate on the close friendship between our brothers and sisters in Indonesia. Great country, and our best friend. The history of our relationship that upholds brotherhood and friendship. Our hearts are on you," said PM Sharif.

After the closed meeting, the President gave a press statement. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed a number of important agendas related to relations between Indonesia and Pakistan.

"Just met with the Prime Minister of Pakistan to also discuss the possibility of cooperation, increase cooperation in the economic and trade fields," Prabowo said.

Not only with Pakistan, the President also conveyed a number of efforts made by Indonesia to build strong cooperation relations, one of which was by meeting members of the Development Eight (D-8) at the Summit forum.

"Tomorrow we will certainly meet with other D-8 members. I think this is in order that we continue to build relations to look for opportunities in uncertain circumstances so that our respective economies are strong," he said.

According to Prabowo, the main focus that Indonesia will bring to the 11th D-8 Summit is strengthening economic cooperation for D-8 member countries. The potential for cooperation with various countries will continue to be strengthened for the welfare of the people.

"We are discussing all possible cooperation. Now we focus on how to strengthen our respective economies. I think the welfare of the people," he continued.
