JAKARTA - Starting today, Google Messages will be fully end-to-end encrypted (E2EE) by default for all users using Rich Communication Services (RCS).

RCS is the modern industry standard for dynamic and secure messaging. And now, all RCS conversations in Google Messages will be fully encrypted, including group chats.

According to Google, RCS will keep messages private between the sender and recipient of the message. This means that when sending texts between two Android devices, including in a group chat, the other person will not be able to view or monitor the message.

Some users may be asked to agree to the Terms of Service provided by their carrier network.

Even those that previously ignored the RCS prompt, the feature will remain disabled. However, users still have the ability to disable it at any time from the Settings message click the RCS chat menu.

"To ensure more people benefit from this added security, RCS will now be enabled by default for new and existing users, unless they have previously disabled RCS in Settings," Google said.

RCS offers several major improvements to standard SMS messaging, including typing indicators, read receipts, and the ability to share high-resolution photos and videos.

For information, besides Google messenger encrypted messages have become the default on services such as WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram and Apple's iMessage. This was quoted from CNET and The Verge, Wednesday, August 9.
