AT&T Starts Using Google's Jibe Platform For RCS Messages

JAKARTA - Since 2021 AT&T, international telecommunications companies have adopted the Rich Communications Service (RCS) on Android phones. But now, the company is announcing that they are migrating their RCS backend to Google's Jibe platform.

This news was said directly by SVP rishi Lockheimer on Twitter. He said that the collaboration between AT&T and Google was intended to accelerate the adoption of RCS standards and AT&T default Android messaging.

Today I'm excited to share that we're working with AT&T to accelerate option of the RCS standard, and that AT&T's default Android messaging will now be via the Jibe platform, so their users will get the latest RCS features immediately.

"Today I am pleased to share that we are working with AT&T to accelerate the implementation of RCS standards, and AT&T's default Android messaging will now go through the Jibe platform, so their users will get the latest RCS feature instantly," said Lockheimer, discovered by 9to5google.

Jibe Cloud allows operators to easily launch and manage RCS services with Google-hosted infrastructure, rather than hosting them on their own servers.

In addition, there are other offers provided by Google, namely the Jibe Hub which allows interoperability between third-party RCS networks.

Not to forget, Lockheimer also said that saying this change would allow AT&T customers to "get the latest RCS feature instantly".

"At I/O, we announce more than 800 million people are currently using RCS, and we look forward to reaching 1 billion by the end of the year. Adopting modern messaging standards helps get us all closer and improve user privacy," he added.
