Microsoft Shuts Down AI Assistant Cortana On Windows Starting At The End Of 2023
SPECIAL DOC

JAKARTA - Microsoft will discontinue support for Cortana, assistant to Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a standalone app on Windows 10 and 11, starting at the end of 2023.

Instead, Microsoft says users can use other AI-powered features in Windows or Microsoft Edge.

With the help of AI in Windows and Edge, users can still get help related to tasks, calendars and emails, but in a new and interesting way.

This change will only affect Cortana in Windows. But Cortana, will continue to be available on mobile Outlook, mobile Teams, Microsoft Teams display and Microsoft Teams space.

"We know that these changes can affect some of the ways you work on Windows, so we want to help you transition smoothly to new options," Microsoft said on its support page, quoted on Saturday, June 3.

Instead of clicking the Cortana icon and launching an application to start using sound, users can now use voice and meet productivity needs through various tools.

Like voice access in Windows 11, where users can control PCs and write text using their voices.

Users can open and switch between apps, explore the web, and read and write emails with the voice access feature.

Users can also take advantage of the new AI-powered Bing Chat, where they can ask complex questions and get concise answers from trusted sources on the web.

In addition, Microsoft 365 Copilot which uses AI can also be used by users as a tool to convert words into a reliable productivity tool.

Copilot uses user-owned Microsoft 365 data, such as calendars, emails, chats, documents, and meetings to help create, edit, share content, and more.

Finally, there is also Windows Copilot which will be available in preview for Windows 11 this month.

The tool provides centralized AI assistance, to complete complex projects, find, launch, and work on several applications.
