JAKARTA - Twitter has quietly shut down its experimental CoTweets feature, where two users can write and publish tweets simultaneously.

The company announced via a post on its Twitter Help page that the test will no longer be available starting January 31, 2023.

While CoTweets have been created, they can be viewed for another month but after that they will be converted to regular Retweets.

The company also stated that they will continue to look into ways to implement this feature in the future and all the feedback received to date has been appreciated.

The CoTweets feature was activated last July in the US, Canada, and Korea, but the feature never went beyond the pilot stage.

"We are sad to say that the current experiment is coming to an end. Existing CoTweets will be visible for another month where they will return to Retweet," Twitter said, quoted from Engadget, Wednesday, February 1.

This move is not surprising given that, since Elon Musk took over the social media, many features have been modified or removed to speed up app loading times.

CoTweets itself is a feature mostly used by influencers and brands for marketing purposes.

Instead, now Twitter has focused on adding other features similar to TikTok, namely For You and Following tabs on the mobile and web apps, as well as yet-to-launch Twitter Blue features such as prioritized tweets and reducing the number of ads.
