Google Mass Layoff Makes 400 Employees Of The FuchsiaOS Division Suffer

JAKARTA - Google just took the world by storm with its layoffs (layoffs) last week, and the division that has been hit the hardest is its future Operating System (OS) development group, Fuchsia.

Many people think that Google only has two OS, namely ChromeOS and especially Android. But the company has also developed another OS called Fuchsia, making it power Nest speakers and smart displays these days.

The creation of FuchsiaOS is also said to distance Google from the perpetual legal trap with Oracle, which does not feature Java code.

Furthermore, last week Google laid off 12,000, of which the company as a whole cut 6 percent of its employees. The NYTimes’ report shows that of the total number, as many as 16 percent of the 400 staff at the Fuchsia division were laid off.

Fuchsia has been a constant mystery within Google. The company rarely talks about it officially, leaving most of the rumors and Github documentation to figure out what's going on.

The OS is no small project, even though it's not based on Linux, opting instead to use an in-house custom kernel, so Google literally built the entire FuchsiaOS from scratch.

Citing Arstechnica, Wednesday, January 25, 2018, a Bloomberg base report named FuchsiaOS as the successor to Android, and said teams in the division plan to launch smart speakers in 2021 and then move on to phones and laptops in 2023.

Even the name FuchsiaOS is a reference to an Apple project that involved several members of the team. Pink, is the code name for the canceled successor to the classic Mac OS, and Purple is the code name for the iPhone OS. The color Fuchsia is a mix of pink and purple, so this all sounds really ambitious.
