Singapore Ready To Operate Flying Taxis By 2023
Taxi Strike (Doc. Volocopter)

JAKARTA - Singapore confirmed the operation of their first flying taxi, Volocity in 2023. This means that Singapore will be the first country to use flying taxis for air transportation.

If there are no obstacles, it is planned that the air taxi will be inaugurated in 2023. Developed by Volocopter GmbH, a company from Bruchsal, Baden which was founded in 2011.

When examined in detail from a visual point of view, this flying taxi looks similar to a large drone, which is equipped with a large number of propeller motors.

However, because the body is not large, the passenger capacity can only accommodate two people, namely one driver or pilot and one passenger.

Going forward, Volocopter said it would increase the capacity of the air taxi, at the expense of the pilot being replaced by an autonomous flying system.

The progress is that the company is currently trying to obtain a flightworthiness permit from the civil aviation authority in Singapore and (CAAS) Agency for Aviation Safety of the European Union (EASA). It is known that Volocopter successfully carried out a close test flight at Marina Bay last year.

Not a few predict, when the launch moment in 2023, the flying taxi can serve longer trips, even across national borders, not only around Singapore.

Asking about the price, of course this air taxi is not the same as taxis in general on the highway. For those who want to try it, they will be charged a rate of IDR 5.1 million with a flight duration of only 15 minutes, a distance of 35 kilometers and a flight speed of up to 110 kilometers per hour.

Flying taxi tickets have also been ordered since the last two months. When viewed from the price, it seems too expensive isn't it, but for the experience why not.

Later Volocopter will work with Grab to serve online transportation for passengers. Both have made an MoU since last year for the operation of the air taxi vehicle.
