JAKARTA - Meta announced the launch of CICERO, the first artificial intelligence (AI) agent to achieve human-level performance in the popular strategy game, Diplomacy.
According to the parent company of Whatsapp, Instagram and Facebook, CICERO is an evolution of Deep Blue, the supercomputer that managed to beat the world chess champion, Garry Kaparavov.
The promise is that CICERO technology is capable of achieving human performance in Diplomacy, which is seen as a challenge and almost impossible to implement in AI.

Because, this diplomacy itself requires players to understand people's motivations and perspectives, make elaborate plans and adjust strategies, and use language to convince people to form alliances.
"CICERO marks the start of a new era of AI that can collaborate with people in gameplay using strategic reasoning and natural language processing, and learning from technology like this could one day produce intelligent assistants that can collaborate with people," Meta wrote in the announcement. shared on Twitter.

Although CICERO was only capable of playing Diplomacy, the technology behind CICERO is capable of working like an AI assistant today, and can complete simple question and answer tasks, such as telling the weather.
To continue advancing the tool, Meta has made CICERO open source, and hopes that AI researchers will continue to develop the technology.
