JAKARTA Germany's automaker Audi has suspended all of its activities on Twitter until further notice. Their decision was reported by German media, WirtschaftsWoche, reported on Wednesday, November 23, citing company sources.
Earlier this month, Volkswagen, which owns Audi along with brands VW, Seat, Cupra, Lamborghini, Bentley, Ducati and Porsche, also said it had recommended they temporarily suspend paid ads on Twitter until further notice. This was done following the takeover of social media platforms by Elon Musk, late October.
Audi himself did not want to comment on the report. However, Audi's Twitter account itself has not tweeted since November 1 after previously tweeting almost every day.
This is a new blow to Twitter after many companies also stopped advertising and its activities on the microblogging platform.
Even the advertising and marketing company Omnicom Group Inc has also recommended that their clients stop their ads on Twitter in the short term. This is stated in their internal memo seen by Reuters last week.
Omnicom serves more than 5,000 clients in 70 countries, including McDonald's Corp and Apple. The memo didn't mention a client's name and it wasn't clear if anyone stopped spending the ad on Twitter, right after the memo.
The move is a growing form of skepticism between agencies and brands about the future of microblogging sites since the acquisition by Elon Musk.
The Tesla CEO has blamed civil rights groups lobbying Twitter advertisers for boycotting the service until Musk clarified how he would control misinformation and hate speech on the service for a massive drop in revenue.
