WhatsApp Rolls Out a New Feature Call Links And Group Calls Can Now Accommodate 32 People

JAKARTA - One of Meta's messaging applications, WhatsApp continues to be the best application. Not surprisingly, new features keep coming. One of them is Call Links, a new way for users to join or start calls.

With the new Call Links feature, users can now send links to initiate audio or video calls and even join ones that are already in progress.

This new feature also makes it easier for users to send links to people who are not part of their contact list. WhatsApp users who want to try the Call Links feature need the latest version of the application.

Head of WhatsApp Will Cathcart said the feature will start rolling out this week. However, he did not explain whether Call Links is available for Android or iOS users and how to use it.

In a separate announcement via his official Facebook page, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed WhatsApp will begin testing encrypted video calls for group calls of up to 32 people. Previously, this application could only accommodate eight people in one group call.

Similar features have been implemented in messaging and video conferencing apps like Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and others.

As reported by The Verge, Tuesday, September 27, WhatsApp's rivals have a much larger caller capacity of 100 people for Google and Microsoft Teams and 300 people on Zoom.

Even so, they do include limitations like call duration for free accounts and may not be the first choice for the billions of people who are already chatting on WhatsApp.

WhatsApp itself doesn't mention the call duration limit, which can place it as one of the best free video calling apps, as well as the Call Links feature which will be a new thing for WhatsApp users.
