President's Cup 2022 Esports Held Again, PPE Becomes Government's Commitment To Develop Career Esports Athletes In The World

JAKARTA – Presidential Chief of Staff, Moeldoko emphasized that the 2022 Presidential Esports Cup (PPE) is a manifestation of the government's commitment to developing the careers of Indonesian esports athletes on the world stage.

Moreover, he said, since the inaugural PPE was held in 2019, potential athletes have continued to emerge who then have clear career paths in the esports industry.

"These talents will continue to be explored and fostered to continue to excel and bring the nation's name in the future", said Moeldoko, at the press conference for PPE 2022, in Jakarta, Thursday, August 4.

According to Moeldoko, the implementation of the Esports President's Cup (PPE) has proven to have a domino effect on the advancement of the national game ecosystem and industry, especially esports. This is evidenced by the emergence of two local games that competed in the 2021 PPE.

On that occasion, Moeldoko described the opportunities for the Indonesian game industry. Referring to the results of Statista's research, Moeldoko said that the projected revenue from games until the end of 2022 was IDR 14 billion, and the growth reached 9.14 percent.

He added that Indonesia's position in the world game market is currently ranked 12. Meanwhile, in Southeast Asia, Indonesia is in first place with a percentage of game players of 43 percent of the Southeast Asian market share, which is estimated to reach IDR  65 billion in the next four years.

"With this opportunity, we hope that Indonesia will be able to host it in its own country, and the game industry will be able to boost the economy and create new job opportunities for millennials", he said.

Moeldoko also hopes that PPE 2022 is not only a competition event but also has a positive impact on the resources of Indonesia's young generation who are creative and superior, to the ideals of the President and the Vice President.

"Through this PPE, the younger generation is not just playing games, but is becoming an Indonesian generation with character, creativity, and innovation", concluded Moeldoko.

For information, this year the government is again holding the Esports President Cup (PPE). This is the fourth e-sports tournament since it was first held in 2019.

Carrying the theme of Esports for the Country, the kick-off of PPE 2022 will be held on Wednesday, August 10. Held as a hybrid, PPE 2022 was attended by 142 athletes who competed in seven branches of the game. Two of them are national games, namely Lokapala & Battle of Satria Dewa. The total prize pool is IDR 2 billion.

The implementation of the 2022 Presidential Esports Cup (PPE) involves the Presidential Staff Office, Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs, Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Creative Economy, Ministry of Communication and Information, and is supported by the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) and the Indonesian Esports Executive Board (PBESI).
